Journey to Handstands

  • Yogalife South 2065 98 Street Northwest Edmonton, AB, T6N 1K2 Canada (map)

This handstand class is a 75-minute workshop style class designed to help build confidence with inversions. The workshop will go over proper warm-up, conditioning, and technique in order to help train and achieve your handstand. This beginner-level workshop is targeted towards individuals who are working towards their handstands and are trying to kick up and hold for 5-10 seconds with or without the wall.

This class will help you learn correct alignment and how to warm up for handstands to keep your body safe. You will work through foundational postures to ensure your hands, shoulders, arms, core, and legs are fully engaged. This class will teach you the different ways to safely enter and exit out of a handstand. You will practice a variety of movements, exercises, and drills that will prepare the body to learn how to handstand. This is a fun, but info-packed session to help you understand the why, what, and how of hand-balancing

It is highly recommended that individuals are confident in being on their hands and have a solid foundation of chaturanga dandasana. By committing to a regular handstand practice, you’ll learn the art of patience, gain confidence, strength, and flexibility in your practice, and add playfulness to your time on the mat.

If you are curious about hand balancing, then we will build on these skills in a future workshop to garner the strength and awareness to approach different types of handstands. There will be individualized tips and drills and you will learn how to incorporate or transition your handstand into a vinyasa flow.
