Introduction to Backbends

  • Yogalife 124 10419 124 Street Edmonton, AB, T5N 3Z5 Canada (map)

Backbends look cool (or painful!) but why do we do them?

There is a misconception that backbends require a lot of flexibility but the power behind these poses is patience and strength.

Join Janelle for this 90-minute workshop where you will learn how to backbend safely, focusing on spine and shoulder mobility, while strengthening the entire muscular posterior chain. We will learn the purpose behind the poses and how to transition into them safely.

Workshops are a great opportunity to ask questions and explore poses that general classes don’t have time to dive into.

For students with a lot of mobility, we will work on building strength, so you don’t overload the spine. Those who want to learn how to deepen their backbends safely, this workshop gives us the time to move into poses that work for your body.

This workshop is designed for individuals who feel confident in their practice and are comfortable with spine and shoulder mobility. Hands-on adjustments and assistance will be available with consent.

Janelle will close the workshop with a restorative practice using bolster and blankets, allowing your mind and body to unwind.
